about

One message etched in fossils is the same as that engraved in the Capuchin Crypt: “What you are now, we once were; what we are now, you shall be.” Yet the enormous, humbling silence of geologic time suggests that your life and death are as “meaningful” as a trilobite’s, a fact as disorienting as it is soothing - a paradox that the music attempts to capture.

credits

released August 2, 2023

Ryan aka Wyoming Toad – Yamaha SY99, Roland SC-88, Roland D-05, hulusi, steel tongue drum.

Bryan aka Angry Beerrin – Acoustic percussion, field recordings, tuner glitches.

The passages in track 2 are snippets from the poetry of paleontologist, C. H. Sternberg. (Note that Sternberg's message was religious. I purposefully chose ambiguous passages to fit the album's theme: nature's silence about transcendental meaning.)

Some thank yous from Ryan: Bryan for the fun collaboration and planting the geology theme; Will for the hulusi gift; Josh for encouraging the VHS-documentary-brass-melody cheese in track 1; YouTuber silverlight2004db for synth programming tutorials used in track 4; and Takeshi for the generous combo deal on the SC88 and my dream synth, the SY99.
