Two digital synthesizers formed the backbone of many of the songs: (1) the Korg Wavestate, Korg’s reimagining of their early 90s Wavestation, and (2) the Roland D-05, Roland’s boutique reissue of their late 80s D-50. The opening song “Frogs” uses Roland’s famous “Soundtrack” patch as an ode to Hiroshi Yoshimura’s title track on Wet Land, one of his albums that helped reignite my passion for music. (I’d like to thank YouTubers Oliver Qiu and Devin Gademan for information about this patch.) Listed in order of their frequency of use, the album also features: Yamaha reface DX, Seiko DS-250, Moog Micromoog, Casio CZ-101, and Korg Volca Sample.

The field recording in “Frogs” is from a nature center in early spring.

Album artwork: The cover image of one of my favorite childhood books: Golden Guide's Reptiles and Amphibians.

(Although newts are technically salamanders and toads are technically frogs, I felt like they both deserved their own special songs.)
